The UWI Open Campus Appoints New Head of Site in The Bahamas
Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Thursday, July 30, 2020 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Bridgette S. Cooper as the Head of its Open Campus Country Site (OCCS) in The Bahamas. Mrs Bridgette Cooper's appointment will take effect on August 1, 2020.
Mrs Cooper, can be described as a self-directed enthusiastic educator who is passionately committed to national development through education. Skilled in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating educational programmes, she has dedicated her professional life to the enlightenment and empowerment of others.
An educator for 28 years, Mrs Cooper has served in several professional capacities, including Technical Officer for the National Commission of Special Education; Secondary Consultant to the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts and Nevis; Technical Officer in the Special Education Unit in the Ministry of Education, Nassau, The Bahamas; Quality Assurance Coordinator in the Preschool and Special Education Units, Ministry of Education for The Bahamas and the Inter-American Development Bank project “Support Programme for Transforming Education and Training.” Mrs Cooper has also served as Assistant Professor at the University of The Bahamas in the School of Education.
She continues to present at numerous workshops and training sessions and has served as guest speaker, in various fora, on topics addressing inclusive education policies and practices; effective student assessment; educational leadership and school reform; and youth development and mentorship.
In Fall 2020, Mrs Cooper anticipates completing doctoral studies at The University of the West Indies Open Campus. She will earn a degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Education Systems and Schools. Her dissertation topic centres on leadership in inner-city/urban schools. She holds a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in Special Education/Reading from the University of Miami, Florida, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from Clearwater Christian College Florida. She is also a Certified Project Manager.
The Open Campus extends a warm welcome to Mrs Bridgette Cooper and wishes her success as she begins her journey with The UWI.
