Live presentations of UWI Annual Reports begin March 5
2021 Council Meetings and public Q&A sessions to air on UWItv
The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. Thursday, March 4, 2021—Continuing its tradition and commitment to transparency and engagement among its stakeholders, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) begins a series of live broadcast of its annual report presentations on Friday, March 5 via UWItv.
The Council Meetings, as they are called, are considered the regional, public University’s annual business meetings, during which accountability of operations, finances and all activities undertaken during the academic year are presented to the Councils.
Each of The UWI’s five campuses is governed by a Council/executive body and over the coming weeks, Campus Council meetings will be held virtually at Mona, Cave Hill, St Augustine, Open Campus and Five Islands respectively. Then on Friday, April 30, 2020, the University Council will hear from Vice-Chancellor of The UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles an account of the overall University system and its Centre operations.
This Friday, at the first of the 2021 Council Meetings, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Dale Webber will lead the presentation of the annual report for the Mona Campus for the academic year ending July 31, 2020 and then facilitate questions. It will be carried live on the University’s public information multimedia platform via www.uwitv.org and via Facebook live from 9:00 am (EST/Jamaica) | 10:00 am (AST/Eastern Caribbean).

About The UWI Council Meetings
Each of The UWI’s five campuses has a Council which is its governing and executive body, prescribed by the University’s Statute 21 and subject to The University’s Charter. The annual meeting of the Campus Council is a fundamental aspect of the accountability of The UWI, where annual and faculty reports are presented. The financial reports—for each year ending July 31 —are submitted to the Campus Finance and General Purposes Committees for consolidation and approval en route to their respective Campus Councils and then to the University Council for final approval. Among the discussions at the Campus Council meetings also includes reports from University officers and committees on matters such as academic and curriculum updates, enrolment statistics, graduate throughput, strategic initiatives and administrative issues.
About the University Council
The University Council is the highest governing body of The UWI with powers as prescribed in the University’s Statute 20. The University Council is constituted in accordance with Statute 18 and consequently the decision-making authority on matters such as appointments, the management of the finances, and all business affairs of the University. Its membership comprises the Chancellor (Chair), the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro Chancellor, the Chairs of the Campus Councils, the Treasurer, the Pro Vice-Chancellors, the Campus Principals, the Chair of the Committee of Deans, the University Registrar, the University Bursar, the University Librarian, as well as representatives of all categories of staff; representatives of the Guild of Students; representatives of the Academic Board of other campuses; representatives of the Alumni body; representatives of the governments of The UWI’s contributing countries; representatives of Tertiary Level Institutions in the Caribbean; and nominees appointed by the Chancellor from among persons in industry, commerce, the professions, the labour movement and other non-governmental organisations.
