Welcome to the Secretariat
The Campus Secretariat provides governance and administrative support to the principal committees and boards of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Global Campus. It serves as a central coordinating point for the effective functioning of the Campus’s governance structures and supports the orderly conduct and documentation of official University business.
Our Role
The Secretariat is responsible for servicing meetings of the major committees and boards of the Global Campus established under the Statutes and Ordinances of The University of the West Indies, including the Campus Council, as well as the sub-committees and special committees established by these bodies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Meeting and Governance Support: Coordinating meetings of the Campus’s principal governance bodies, including scheduling meetings, preparing and circulating agendas and meeting papers, recording minutes, and tracking decisions and actions arising from meetings.
- Committee Membership: Coordinating the nomination and election processes for eligible persons to serve on Campus committees and boards, and maintaining appropriate records of committee membership.
- Governance Coordination: Maintaining close working relationships with University and Campus departments, offices, faculties, committees and senior officers to facilitate the effective flow of information and implementation of decisions.
- Corporate Records: Maintaining official governance records, including minutes, reports, decisions and other documentation relating to the work of the Campus’s committees and boards.
- Academic and Institutional Information: Coordinating the submission of relevant information for inclusion in the UWI Academic Calendar and supporting the maintenance and updating of the Registry’s website.
- Governance Compliance: Supporting the Campus in ensuring that its governance processes operate in accordance with the University's Statutes, Ordinances, policies and approved procedures.
Our Function
At its core, the Secretariat supports good governance by ensuring that the Campus’s decision-making bodies are properly constituted, effectively serviced, and that their decisions and records are accurately documented and followed through.
The Secretariat therefore acts as a link between the Campus’s governance bodies and the wider University community, facilitating communication, coordination and accountability across the institution.
Our Location
The Secretariat is located on The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago.
