Introduction
This programme aims to train individuals with the requisite knowledge and skills in the Social Work field to ensure quality of human life, social solidarity, and fulfilment of national development goals.
This Programme carries normal matriculation status to UWI Degree programmes.
Who is this programme for?
This programme is mounted in order to meet the training needs of persons actively engaged in the Social Work field. It offers study at the para-professional/para-academic level leading to the award of a certificate.
Programme Structure
Each subject demands 60 contact hours, or. 540 contact hours over the two years. There is also a practicum which will be divided into two (2) parts over the two year duration of the programme. The practicum will consist of one hundred and twenty (120) contact hours.
Classes are held twice/trice weekly, Monday-Friday 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
When will the programme start?
This programme starts in August and normally runs for Two (2) years.
Entry Requirements
- Five 'O' Level/CXC passes including English Language, one numerate subject and three other relevant subjects.
- Must be actively engaged in a social work field setting.
- Mature persons who do not strictly meet the academic requirements but have five (5) years or more experience in social work.
