Certificate in Criminology (Full Time)

Introduction

This programme is designed to provide participants with a knowledge and understanding of Criminology in its various aspects. It will examine some of the basic problems in the study of Crime, the Administration of Criminal Justice and the Treatment of Offenders. This programme carries normal matriculation status to UWI Degree programmes.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is relevant to persons desirous of pursuing a career in Criminology; Legislators/ Attorneys at Law, Police Officers, Security Officers, Prison Officers, Welfare Officers, Forensic Scientists, Social Workers, Sociologists and Court Personnel. This programme is recognized by the Police Service Commission for possible promotion of Police Officers.

Mode of Delivery

The programme will be offered online this academic year using the Moodle and BlackBoard Collaborate platforms.

When will the programme start?

This programme starts in September of the academic year and normally runs for One (1) year.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have five (5) '0' Levels (or equivalent), including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects, or mature students who do not strictly meet the academic requirements but have at least three (3) years experience in his/her field of employment. It affords open entry for members of the protective services.

Programme Structure

Each subject demands seventy-five (75) contact hours or 225 hours to be completed over one year

Semester Two

2.1 Prosecution and the Courts         (75 Contact Hours)

2.3 Penology (75 Contact Hours)
