Introduction

The Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) Certificate in Information Technology is a 120 contact hour programme is geared towards equipping individuals with the foundation knowledge, skills and competencies required to actively pursue and/or maintain a career in Information Technology. The programme will focus on selected present and future day topics comprising both theoretical and practical components to help participants understand the technical concepts underlying developments in information technology.

Who is this programme for?

The programme is ideal for individuals who have a minimum of one (1) year professional experience in an IT related field or discipline. Additionally, persons with an interest in technology and business who wish to pursue careers in IT management may find it useful.  

Programme Structure

The programme consists of four courses. These may be taken together for the completion of the Certificate or participants may be allowed to complete any course for the award of the Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

  • Information Security
  • Introduction to Cloud Computing

Entry Requirements

Applicants to the programme should have a minimum of one (1) year professional experience in an IT related field.  Other relevant professional experience will also be considered for the basis of entry.  Kindly contact an Open Campus Site location nearest to you for information on the application process.  

Assessment Structure

A model of continuous in-course assessment will be applied to all courses within this programme. Students will be assessed at different intervals over the duration of each course which may include written examinations. Assignments may also include but are not limited to: case-based activities, practical assignments, presentations and other projects.

Introduction to Cloud Computing

This course focuses on cloud computing concepts, technological foundations, infrastructure, and architecture. Participants will be exposed to security and technology challenges and will acquire knowledge on applications, implementation issues, and the management and governance of cloud computing.

Information Security

Course participants will review state-of-the art technologies used to address security problems in today’s ever-changing IT environment.  Some main topics will include security management models and practices; risk management; identification and authentication; access control; information security technologies and encryption techniques.

Computer Networking

In this course students will study security issues in Information Technology and Networking. Key components include authentication; introduction to computer networks and the Internet. Protocol layers; the OSI model; Application; Transport and Network layers will also be explored.

Introduction to Information Technology

Course participants will be exposed to a variety of topics on the increasing role of Information Technology as it relates to the information profession as well as provide basic understanding of how technological professionals communicate with each other.
