The Digital Learning Innovation (UWIVERSE) Unit is a strategic innovation hub within The University of the West Indies (UWI) Global Campus, dedicated to advancing future-focused, technology-enabled teaching, learning, and knowledge creation. The Unit leads experimentation, design, and implementation of innovative digital learning models that respond to regional and global educational, workforce, and societal needs.
UWIVERSE plays a central role in bridging pedagogy, technology, and innovation, supporting the University’s transformation agenda while positioning The UWI Global Campus as a leader in digital and immersive education in the Caribbean.
Core Functions
- Digital Learning Design & Innovation
Design, pilot, and scale innovative digital and blended learning approaches, incorporating emerging technologies and learner-centred pedagogies. - Immersive and Experiential Learning
Develop and support the use of immersive technologies (AR/VR/XR), simulations, and virtual environments to enhance teaching, learning, and skills development. - Media Production & Virtual Studio Services
Manage and commercialise media, virtual, and immersive studio facilities to support academic programmes, professional development, content creation, and external partnerships. - Educational Technology Piloting & Prototyping
Test, evaluate, and prototype new educational technologies, platforms, and tools to inform institutional adoption and best practices. - Capacity Building & Professional Development
Support academic and professional staff through training, mentorship, and collaborative innovation initiatives focused on digital pedagogy and educational technology. - Innovation Partnerships & Commercialisation
Facilitate collaboration with industry, governments, development partners, and entrepreneurs, and enable innovation-as-a-service and commercial opportunities aligned with UWI’s mandate. - Thought Leadership & Regional Impact
Contribute to regional discourse on digital education, innovation, and the future of work through research, showcases, and knowledge sharing.
Through these functions, UWIVERSE strengthens UWI Global Campus’ ability to experiment, innovate, and deliver high-impact digital learning solutions that support regional development, workforce readiness, and inclusive access to education.
