The UWI Global Campus, Barbados, launched its 2026 CXC/CSEC Summer School Programme

The UWI Global Campus, Barbados. Tuesday, July 07, 2026The UWI Global Campus has officially launched its 2026 CXC/CSEC Summer School Programme, which runs from July 6 to August 11, 2026. This longstanding programme, which offers a comprehensive and engaging curriculum, marks its 47th year.

The programme continues to prepare students for success in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC)/CSEC examinations through a curriculum focused on quality instruction, individualised support, effective study and examination skills, critical thinking, collaboration, and personal development. The programme reflects The UWI Global Campus' commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education throughout the Region.

Under this year's theme, "Decide, Commit, Succeed…Achieve Your Academic and Personal Goals," the programme will comprise intensive classes, workshops, and extracurricular activities. The programme is structured to include fourteen core CXC subject areas, as well as personal development and enrichment activities, providing a well-rounded experience for students entering fourth and fifth forms who are preparing to sit the examinations in 2027.

In 2025, students from more than 20 secondary schools and institutions across Barbados and the wider Caribbean participated in the programme, reinforcing its reputation as one of Barbados' longest-running CSEC preparatory initiatives. Among participating schools, The St. Michael School recorded the highest enrolment, followed by Alleyne School. Additionally, students participated in extracurricular workshops facilitated by industry professionals on topics including nutrition, drug awareness, Mandarin, fire safety, career guidance, and fitness through a boot camp session.

As is customary, the programme has partnered with several private sector organisations in Barbados to sponsor awards for outstanding students who excel in the core subject areas and for the two secondary schools with the highest registered participants, among others. This year's sponsors represent a wide cross-section of sectors, including the financial, energy, home improvement, manufacturing, and retail sectors.

Speaking on this year's programme, Mr Ryan Byer, Head of Site, The UWI Global Campus, Pine Site, Barbados, stated, “We have put a great deal of planning and preparation into the 2026 edition of the programme, with valuable contributions and creative input from our staff. In addition to academic instruction delivered by a highly trained and experienced team of teachers from across Barbados' secondary school system, students will benefit from personal development activities facilitated by our strategic partners. The programme will also feature a range of exciting and engaging activities, including treasure hunts throughout the five-week period, culminating in a grand closing ceremony on the final day. Through our resource mobilisation efforts, we have secured strong support from Barbados' corporate sector, resulting in a variety of sponsorships that will provide prizes for outstanding students and participating schools. We encourage all interested students to register for this exceptional five-week programme and take advantage of the enriching academic and personal development opportunities it offers.”
