Introduction
With the re-start of major international sporting competitions, coupled with televised sport events filling the entertainment void created by the Covid-19 restrictions, there is likely to be an increased demand for additional technical support to produce live sport events and other sport entertainment programmes. The proposed training also fulfills the Faculty of Sport’s strategic goal to contribute to global sport development, earn revenue and provide access by diversifying sport training
Television presentation skills are hugely beneficial to persons working in varied capacities.
Sport Broadcasting Level II will offer hands-on training in commentating and presenting as well as for auxiliary television broadcasting roles including; Producing, Directing, Presenting, Floor managing, and camerawork among others. The training aims to expand the pool of sport enthusiasts globally who are competent to assume fulltime, part-time or seasonal roles in broadcasting role/s of their choice.
Target Audience
The Training will target: retired athletes in the region and other parts of the world, sport fans with interest in one or more sport broadcasting roles, practicing sport journalists who wish to up skill, free lancers or aspiring free lancers, participants who completed Sport Broadcasting I, and sport fans, enthusiasts and persons from anywhere in the world with Internet access who will benefit from training in Sport Broadcasting.
Objectives
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Describe Live Sports Broadcasting roles
- Write reviews of Live Sports Broadcasting on a variety of sports
- Prepare sport commentaries from watching video of sporting events
- Improve interview techniques for conducting live and pre-recorded sport interviews
- Present articulate and polished 5-minute presentations for television
- Speak confidently in front of an audience and to a camera
- Analyze the content and style of their favorite Pundit
- Write comprehensive sport reports for audio and television from virtually attending a major sport event
- Collaborate on a television sport feature that incorporates live footage as well as footage from media archive; interviews with key stakeholders; coach, team captain, sponsor, fans (length of feature to be determined)

Mode of Delivery
The workshop will be delivered fully online using the Open Campus “Learning Exchange” environment (Moodle/Learning Management System).
Assessment Structure
The workshop consists of formative and summative assessments and is assessed by 100% coursework.
- The full range of assessment; diagnostic, formative and summative will be applied.
- Short audio demonstration files uploaded by students, will be used to evaluate their voice quality and language use.
- Responses to questions and comments on posts in discussion board will assess analysis of course content.
- Critique of live sport commentary, production of a Live Sport broadcast followed by peer and facilitator assessment, will determine participants’ achievement of the training workshop learning outcomes.
- Consultations will be done on exit, to set goals for the next phase of participants’ sport broadcasting interests.

Requirements for the Award Certificate
In order to qualify for the award of the Sport Broadcasting Workshop Level II training, learners must complete all 10 weeks at 20 contact hours. Learners will receive a Certificate of Participation with two (2) Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
