InauguralConvocation-TheCampushelditsinauguralConvocationonJuly31, 2021 to celebrate Dr. Ruby Lake Richards, the first female Antiguan student to enrol in the first cohort of students in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University College of the West Indies in 1948. She received an Honorary degree of Doctor of Science.

The FMS, Mona receives ASPIRE Award for Excellence in Social Accountability - The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) at The UWI, Mona Campus made history in becoming the first institution in Latin America and the Caribbean to receive the ASPIRE Award for Excellence in Social Accountability. The University, through the FMS, is the 17th training institution worldwide to receive this award. The ASPIRE to Excellence Programme, administered by the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), has been established to go beyond the traditional accreditation process. Social Accountability in the context of medical education, speaks to the obligation of the medical school to respond to the priority health needs of the population which it serves.
UWI Mona Professors named Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards Excellence Laureates for 2021 - The University of the West Indies, Mona’s Professor Rupika Delgoda and Dr. Floyd Morris were named the Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence Laureates for 2021. Dr. Morris was recognized for excellence in Public & Civic Contributions and Professor Delgoda for Excellence in Science & Technology.
UWI Mona Home to Automatic Weather Station - To improve the quality and use of climate related data in Jamaica, The UWI Mona and the Meteorological Service Jamaica (MSJ) signed a Memorandum of Agreement to enable the installation of an Automatic Weather Station (AWS) on the Mona Campus. The World Bank-funded project is being implemented under the Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience (PPCR), with the Planning Institute acting as Executing Agency on behalf of the Government of Jamaica.
UWIMonaStudentsandAlumshineatthe2020TokyoSummerGames-Four Olympic medals were won by Jamaican competitors who were also Pelicans from the Mona Campus! Hansle Parchment, 2017 UWI graduate, won gold in the men’s 110 metre hurdles; Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, an honorary graduate of The UWI, also copped gold in the Women’s 4x100m relay as well as a silver in the Women’s 100m and current UWI Mona Campus students Candice McLeod and Roneisha McGregor were part of the bronze medal-winning team in the Women’s 4x400m relay. Other UWI Mona students who represented at the Summer Games included Fedrick Dacres, Jaheel Hyde and Emmanuel Archibald. UWI Mona alumni who participated at the games were, Shanieka Ricketts and Traves Smikle.
UWI Mona’s Professor received prestigious Membership to the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators - The American College of Surgeons has accepted Professor Newton Duncan for Membership to its Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. The mission of the Academy is to play a leadership role in advancing the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties, promoting the highest achievement in the lifetimes of surgeons.
UWI Mona Partners with Abbott Pandemic Defence Coalition for viral surveillance in Jamaica - The UWI Mona Campus is now a partner in the Abbott Pandemic Defense Coalition, a first-of-its-kind global scientific viral detection network.
