The overall objective of this course is to cause you, the student to gain an intimate understanding of the Caribbean Business Environment and become familiar with the modalities for doing business in the Region. In perusing your readings, you will encounter several definitions of the Caribbean, which might be markedly different from what your perceptions were before. One of those that you may choose to become familiar with is the following:
The Caribbean is that area of the world that is located to the south east of North America, the east of Central America and to the North-West of South America, and which comprises the islands that are enclosed by the Caribbean sea as well as the countries on the mainland with coastlines that are washed by it.
During your perusal of the course material you will discover that there are some 7000 islands and cays that make up the Caribbean, the majority of which are uninhabited. You will further discover that the Region comprises both mainland and island territories and this might be a revelation for some of you who previously thought that the Caribbean consisted only of a chain of islands.
