Examination

For some courses, you may be required to do assignments, quizzes, sit mid-semester examinations as well as end-of-semester examinations. Examinations are held at designated Global Campus examination centres in The UWI contributing countries (see list below).  Some courses may have an alternative to the final examination, such as a major project/action research.

Examinations are different from assignments, quizzes or online tests that might be part of your course work. Examinations must be written in a supervised environment, with an approved examination invigilator (proctor/supervisor).

Global Campus Examinations

The UWI has four campuses (Cave Hill, Mona, Global and St. Augustine); in most cases, examination papers are different for each campus for logistical reasons.  If you are sitting an examination at a sister campus, you should ensure that the examination paper is the one prescribed for Global Campus students – this will be clearly stated at the top of the examination paper.

Global Campus Examinations Timetable

The Examinations Timetable for Global Campus students is different from the one for students at any of the other campuses of The UWI.  You must make sure that the Examinations Timetable from which you take your schedule is the Global Campus Examinations Timetable.  Examinations are held during the last two or three weeks of each semester or summer session.

All written final examinations have sessions scheduled either for the morning (9:00 a.m.), afternoon (1:00 p.m.), or evening (4:00 p.m.) and are two or three hours in duration.  In some exceptional cases, examinations may be scheduled on public holidays.

Mid-semester examinations are usually held from 5:00 p.m.

Writing Examinations at an Global Campus Examination Centre

As an international student assigned to the Virtual International Students Office (VISO) you must indicate where you will be writing your examinations.  If you will be in a country with an Global Campus Examination Centre and wish to write your examination there, you must write to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Assessment, Awards and Records, Global Campus, indicating where you will be writing your examination (stating the country and location of the Open Campus Examination Centre).  This should be done at least 30 days prior to the date of the particular examination.

Writing Examinations Outside of Countries with UWI Examination Centres

If you wish to take your written examinations at a location other than a UWI Examination Centre in one of the above listed countries, you are required to identify a proctor at an accredited post-secondary institution such as a University, Community College or Technical Institute and your examination must be supervised by a professor or instructor or otherwise qualified person.  Alternately, you may take your examination at an Embassy or Consulate that offers proctoring service to international students.  The proctoring institution MUST be able to communicate in English in order for your examinations to be facilitated.

As a student, it is your responsibility to identify a suitable proctor at least 60 days in advance of your examination.  To do this, you must complete an EXTERNAL PROCTOR FORM and submit it to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Assessment, Awards and Records for evaluation and approval of the proctor.  You can submit via the below upload link or post as indicated below:
