The Business Development Unit (BDU) is strategically positioned within the campus to develop business engagements with internal UWI partners, industry players, international development agencies, non-governmental organizations and other business prospects. The BDU has successfully led negotiations on behalf of the campus resulting in several structured agreements to facilitate capacity building and other development actions.

Anneshia M. Welsh is Head of the Business Development Unit in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, The University of the West Indies Open Campus and also the inaugural Chair of the Campus’ Entrepreneurial and Innovation Committee. She is an Attorney-at-law by profession and she sits on several university committees where she contributes to university policy development. Notably, she serves on the University Intellectual Property Management and Commercialization Policy Review Committee and is a member of the Standing Committee on Ordinances and Regulations. An avid business development professional with a track-record of mobilizing resources and building strategic partnerships with local, regional and international partners. She also has a demonstrated history of leading cross-divisional teams to ensure there is alignment with organizational goals and execution of strategy.
An entrepreneurial and driven Business Development Strategist, with seventeen (17) years demonstrated history of working in the higher education and skills training industry. A facilitator of high-level client relationship management, specializing in areas of Corporate Account Management, Project Management, Events Management, Marketing, Corporate Communications, Recruitment, Training and Development and Public Relations.
Keziah Simmons-Grant is Secretary and brings 25 years of experience in the Secretarial field having completed the Executive Secretaries Technician (NEC) Certificate and the Association of Professional Secretaryship (APS) Certification mounted by the UWI and, the Association of Professional Secretaries. Selected as Recording Secretary on the University Council Taskforce on Tuition Fees in 2015, her excellent organising and planning skills are an asset. An effective and dynamic communicator who is currently pursuing her B.Sc. in Management Studies.
Riaz's shared passion for technology, interface design and business processes, uniquely equips him with the creative space to devise disruptive solutions to achieve organizational goals. He exhibits a keen interest, and has over 10 years experience, in automated information systems, social media marketing, web and graphic design, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence and, building great customer experiences. He naturally has an entrepreneurial mindset with robust brainstorming skills refined through years of experience in the Education, Marketing, E-commerce, Information Systems and, Oil and Gas sectors.
