George S. Willie has had a long career in public accounting with an emphasis on the audits of healthcare, government, and not-for-profit entities. He lectures extensively on issues relating to the accounting profession and is fiercely committed to the inclusion of minorities in the accounting profession.
George has been recognized on numerous occasions by CPA Magazine and Accounting Today as one of the nation's (USA) Most Influential Accountants.
George holds a Bachelor of Business
Administration (Magna Cum Laude) in accounting from Howard University and a Master of Business Administration in
finance from American University.
George is a member and Chairs the Advisory Board of the Howard University Center for Accounting Education. He serves on the Board of Visitors of Howard University School of Business and the Dean's Council of the Kogod School of Business - American University. George is a member of the audit committee of the American Institute for Research (AIR) and a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs Foundation. George is the former Chair and a current member of the Montgomery County Employees Retirement System – Board of Trustees
George recently served two terms as the U.S. representative to the Small and Medium Practices (SMP) Committee of the International Federation of Accountants. He is a member of the AICPA's National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion.
George previously served on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); is a former chair of the PCPS Executive Committee and the AICPA Minority Initiatives Committee and is a former member of the AICPA Board of Examiners (CPA Exam) and the Advisory Council (Yellow Book) Government Accountability Office (GAO).
George is a lifetime member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. he has worked with NABA to promote the accounting profession as an attractive and rewarding career for young African Americans. He has achieved this by making himself available through speaking engagements for NABA student Chapters and Regional Student Conferences throughout the country. He has provided scholarships to numerous students to aid them in furthering their college education in accounting and is a past chairman of the Division of Firms (the association of the African American-owned accounting firms in the United States).
George is a member of the Board of the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (AFUWI), Treasurer of the Funding Raising Committee, and for the last couple of years, have Co-Chaired the AFUWI awards gala. He has always been a prominent supporter of the AFUWI and was the recipient of its 2015 Caribbean Luminary Award.
In February 2019, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) announced the establishment of the George S. Willie Ethnically Diverse Student Scholarship and Internship program. The George S. Willie Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by the Kogod School of Business - American University.
