THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES – OPEN CAMPUS CEREMONY FOR THE PRESENTATION OF GRADUATES 2021
In 2013, Howard University renamed its Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) – the George S. Willie ACAP Program, as recognition of George's significant contribution. The Accounting Career Awareness Program attracts high school graduating students from across the United States to a week-long program geared towards the exposure of students who have demonstrated an interest in the field of accounting.
In 2013, the Michigan Association of CPAs awarded George the "Diversity and Inclusion" award in honor of his outstanding efforts to educate and influence aspiring young minority high school students. Mr. Willie's contributions include speaking for many years at the High School Leaders Conference as well as continuous efforts working with minority students to expand their knowledge of the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) profession. Mr. Willie has worked with high school students in Michigan, as well as throughout the country. Over the past ten years, he has presented over $80,000 in scholarships to high school students in the Michigan area. Additionally, he has also tirelessly served on the MICPA Diversity and Inclusion Task Force.
On March 28, 2017, the Center for Accounting Education (CAE) at Howard University sponsored the Inaugural George S. Willie Lecture Series. In recognition of Mr. Willie's pivotal role in CAE's success, as well as his tireless efforts to promote the benefits of an accounting career, the decision was made to honor him by creating The George S. Willie Lecture Series to be held annually in the Howard University School of Business.
This lecture series exposes students to many influential leaders in the accounting profession who will share their road to success and the pitfalls they have had to overcome along the way. We are confident that these lectures will inspire the next generation of accounting professionals.
In 2013, the UWI/George S. Willie lecture series was launched at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies. The lectures are designed as public forums where the Jamaican public is invited to engage and dialogue with prominent international professionals.
George has been a significant contributor to the academic programs of the Institute of Caribbean Studies and was named Outstanding Entrepreneur.
