The University of the West Indies 75th Anniversary Open Campus, Belize host Tree Planting Ceremony

As part of The UWI Open Campus planned activities to celebrate The University of the West Indies 75th anniversary under the theme Rooted, Ready, Rising, the Open Campus, Belize hosted a tree planting ceremony on the grounds of the Site on Wednesday April 26, 2023.    

The event started at 9:00 am with the playing of the national anthem followed by the invocation, which was given by Pastor Ashley Rocke of the Lake I Baptist Church.  This was followed by remarks from Dr Sharmayne Saunders, Head, The UWI Open Campus, Belize and the Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, who is a graduate of The UWI who attended both the Cave Hill and Mona campuses. The final remarks came from Ms. Jamie-Lee Rocke, President, UWIAA Belize Chapter after which we proceeded to plant the trees.

The UWI Open Campus staff as well as alumni and other guests were present at the ceremony.  The Programme Director was Mr. Ion Cacho and the plants were donated by the Ministry of Agriculture.
