Welcome to Grenada!

Welcome in particular to the University of the West Indies

Marryshow House University Centre.

At the moment we can offer you

An appeal for material

The Marryshow Memorial Library of this University Centre now has the reputation of being a Centre of Excellence for research on Grenada, especially on Grenadian History. In order to better serve Grenada and the Grenadian people, we are anxious to increase our documentation on two key areas of Grenada’s history - Fedon’s Rebellion, and Marryshow and the West Indian Federation. I am launching a public appeal to all Grenadians to pass on for safekeeping to posterity whatever books and papers they might have that would be instrumental in preserving our literary heritage. Alternatively, a choice can be made to let the Marryshow Memorial Library have these documents on short loan, with permission to photocopy for our collection. I would be so grateful if you are in a position help with this project in any way.

A particular need has arisen for a book on Fedon’s rebellion written by a man called Von Weiller. Von Weiller was a member of the Fedon’s revolutionaries, but about a year before the Rebellion came to an end, he broke with Fedon and turned himself in to the British. His book would cast a unique perspective on the rebellion, written as it was by someone that was first a committed revolutionary, and then grew disenchanted to the extent that he apparently threw himself on the mercy of the British authorities. I would be delighted to find a copy of this book in Grenada, and very grateful to anyone who could contribute to filling out the perspectives on Fedon’s rebellion by making it available to researchers of the period.
