The School of Continuing Studies has designed a Country Conference Series focussing on the non-campus countries (NCCs) of the UWI system. The School will organize multi-disciplinary academic conferences on matters related to each Caribbean state to be held in a cyclical series in each of the NCCs.
The aim of the conference series is to stimulate and highlight research in each country not only by academics in the country but by UWI staff based at campuses and by scholars in other institutions with interests in Caribbean studies. The theme of the conference series is Beyond Walls: Multi-disciplinary Perspectives.

Professor Woodville Marshall retired as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Non-Campus Countries and Distance Education on July 31st, 2000. As the first incumbent of this post, he spearheaded the University's effort to formulate a comprehensive set of plans for outreach, initially focusing on the Non-Campus Countries. He leaves to his successor, Professor Lawrence Carrington, Director of the School of Continuing Studies, the task of formulating an accompanying plan for the campus countries. Professor Carrington will continue as Director of the School of Continuing Studies and will initially reside at Mona, though the Board's Office will remain at Cave Hill.
We wish Professor Marshall a happy and productive post-PVC period. And we welcome Professor Carrington to the further challenges of his new post.
