A fixture on the international long-distance running calendar, the race was put on pause for three years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A new 5K race was introduced, catering to a broader spectrum of individuals. A record 1,800 participants from 21 countries registered to participate. Language Learning for Migrant ChildrenThe UWI Student Volunteer Pilot Project for Migrant Children in Trinidad and Tobago launched in September 2023, connecting 20 Venezuelan migrant children, ages 4 to 14, with 40 UWI student mentors. The goal was to help these children prepare for Trinidad and Tobago's primary schools after the government's decision in July 2023 to integrate migrant students. The project, a collaboration between the Faculty of Humanities & Education's (FHE) Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics (DMLL) and the Centre for Language Learning (CLL), is part of UWI's Community Engagement Framework. Campus Principal, Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, recognised the need for English language support, as many of the children were not fluent in English. Previous tests showed gaps in key areas like creative writing, reading comprehension, and math. The programme involved students from different faculties, who provided important guidance to help the children succeed in their new academic environment.
