Are Day Care and Pre-School Services overseen by the same Ministry?  

Day Care is overseen by the Department of Health – ages 0 to 4. Currently the responsibilities pertain to appropriate facilities, caregiver to child ratio and criminal record checks.

Preschool (age 4) is offered to all children through the government (under the Department of Education). Not all children attend our government preschools. Families may choose to attend private preschools, which are licensed with our Department of Health.

Ministry Name– both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health

Title of early childhood curriculum in use: The public preschool curriculum used is called Creative Curriculum

Status of early childhood policy:   Proposed/Pending

There is currently legislation pertaining to the standards and requirements of private day care and preschool facilities. It is anticipated that additional and more comprehensive regulations will be put in place.
