MGMT 6123
Compensation systems in contemporary public and private organizations are examined in this course. It explores topics such as the determinants of wage and salary levels and structures, legal issues in compensation, intrinsic and extrinsic rewards, and employee satisfaction. The course further examines strategic issues in managing compensation systems along with the development of a total compensation strategy.
MGMT 6124
This course covers legal compliance and ethical issues in human resource management. Specifically, the course examines compliance to Caribbean labour laws and regulations in HR recruitment, selection, development, training, compensation, placement, retention, termination, discipline, health, safety, workplace discrimination and imbalances, as well as retaliation and privacy issues. Emerging issues, such as sexual harassment, whistle-blowing, internet usage, and data protection are further covered. A significant portion of the course is devoted to ethical challenges encountered by human resources professionals.
MGMT 6203
The course seeks to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to conduct a research project, with specific reference to data collection, data analysis, interpretation of results, and the presentation of research. The course will be delivered in tandem with the Research Paper/Practicum.
MGMT6205
This course provides students with the knowledge to be financially literate and to interface confidently with the finance function in order to achieve the company’s strategic plans. With sustainability as a cross cutting theme, students are introduced to the main topics in accounting and finance that impact on the strategic decisions that are made in organisations on a daily basis. Through the use of case studies and projects, students gain hands-on experience in the strategic deployment of financial literacy by managers.
MGMT6900
This course normally follows the completion of the taught courses. Students will work on a significant field-based project, which will be designed and completed under faculty guidelines and supervision. During fieldwork, students are required to investigate aspects of their projects that demonstrate competence in the use of skills acquired during the taught element of their programme.
MKTG 6000
This is a practical course that develops a managerial approach to marketing and tests the student’s marketing decision-making skills. It expands on the classical strategies in marketing with particular attention to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
MKTG 6002
The course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to develop an understanding of the process by which buyers' needs are identified and met through personal contact. The course takes both a strategic and a tactical perspective.
PSMA 6110
This course provides participants with an appreciation of the link between constitutions and administrative action and also introduces them to the legislative process and its impact on the functioning of the civil service. In addition, the course explores the concepts of administrative laws and oversight bodies, and examines the implications of supranational institutions for national decision-making.
PSMA 6111
This course explores the content and expressions of values and ethics within the public service and identifies the debate around the differences between public and private sector ethics. It covers the elements of public sector ethics at the professional level, examines their implications for the activities and attitudes of public servants and determines the extent to which these values remain relevant, given the introduction of commercial values and increasing interface with the private sector.
PSMA 6112
The changes in the theories and practices of state intervention, in both developed and developing countries, are examined in this course. The course explores the machinery of government, the administrative traditions and the principal agency relationships. It also presents critical analyses of the movement away from more rule-based approaches to government activity to the introduction of market-based/market-driven models of state interventions and institution creation.
