Students are able to apply for exemptions at the beginning of each semester. An online form is sent out to all students to complete and submit. Students are required to send the relevant documents for processing at this time. |

1.6 | What are the types of course exemptions? | |
EX – Exemption without credit. (Students will need to take another course in its place to obtain credits.) | ||

Students who receive exemptions with credit do not have to resit the course | ||

Students who are granted exemptions without credit, would need to seek a replacement course for each EX awarded | ||
1.9 | Why are there two procedures for course exemptions? | |
There are 2 procedures. Procedure 1 is for students who see their institutions on the exemption listing that is sent out at the beginning of the semester | ||

Procedure 1 is for students who see the exemption(s) requested listed on the Approved Exemption Listing | ||

Procedure 2 exemptions are for students who do not see the course(s) listed on the Approved Exemption Listing | ||
1.12 | Why do I need to submit a transcript? | |
Transcripts are submitted to confirm GPA and grade(s) you received for courses completed at previous institutions. | ||
1.13 | Why do I need to submit course outlines when applying for procedure 2 exemptions? | |
Course outlines are used to compare the content to the UWI Open Campus course(s) to verify similarity. | ||
1.14 | How long will it take to process my exemption request? | |
Once the application form is closed. The process usually takes about two months for Procedure 1 to access the requests and prepare correspondence. (Students who receive exemptions will note the changes in their academic records before official correspondence are prepared.) However, Procedure 2 will take longer because the faculty has to make a comparison of each course and its content. |

Unfortunately, correspondence is not prepared until after the go through process is completed which might take two (2) to three (3) months. | ||

The UWI Open Scholarship covers the cost of tuition, residence costs (on/off campus) and contributions to books and meals. | |

The UWI Toronto Gala Scholarship award is available to Jamaican Nationals who are registered full-time in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Science and Technology, Humanities & Education & Social Sciences; and entering level two (2) of their degree programme. | |

3.0 Status Letters |

3.1 | What is a status letter? |
A Status Letter provides information about your enrolment status and will include information such as: name of programme, enrolment date, courses completed, number of courses remaining, etc. A Status Letter may be used for the purposes of applying for a loan, a visa or to provide enrolment information to an employer. | |

3.4 | What can I use a status letter for? |
Status letters may be used to apply for loans, visas and also for employers who need current enrollment information from you - the registered and enrolled Open Campus student. A Status Letter may be used for the purposes of applying for a loan, a visa or to provide enrolment information to an employer. |

3.5 | Can my tuition payments be listed in a status letter? |
Tuition cost is listed in a status letter, however tuition payments made can only be provided in a Statement of Account provided by the Office of Finance. | |

No, we do not include grades in a status letter, however you may request a transcript by emailing transcripts@open.uwi.edu | |

Yes, status letters can be sent directly to the recipient via courier at the cost of the student. | |

Yes, you are able to pick up a copy of your letter at your Site or the original at the Student Support office in Jamaica | |

3.11 | Is there a cost for a status letter? |
Yes. Payment of US$5 or the local equivalent should be paid as you would your tuition, please collect voucher from your selected Site. | |
4.0 Refund |
|
4.1 | Who qualifies for a refund? |
Students are only eligible for a refund if they are in good financial standing with the University. Students are eligible for a refund if the scheduled programme/course is cancelled by the Open Campus. Students are eligible for a refund of a portion of tuition costs if they withdraw from the University or request Leave of Absence in writing before the end of the third week of semester classes or the second week of summer classes. Students may be eligible for a refund of a portion of tuition costs if they change their registration by dropping a course before the end of the third week of semester classes or the second week of summer classes. |

4.2 | How do I request a refund? |
Students must submit a request for the refund in writing, on the appropriate form, to the Site of registration together with: a. a copy of the payment receipt b. a copy of the final fee assessment c. the relevant approval from the Registry, if applicable (e.g. Leave of Absence, Withdrawal) Incomplete forms or forms submitted without the required supporting documents will not be processed. |

4.3 | How are refunds of tuition calculated? |
Refund of tuition is pro-rated as follows:

7.0 Guild |

7.1 | What is the UWI Open Campus Guild? |
The Guild of Students (GOS) is the official body for student representation at the University of West Indies (The UWI). The Guild was established in 1951 as the Guild of Undergraduates and in 1996 was changed to the Guild of Students to provide representation for both undergraduate and graduate students. The UWI Open Campus’ Guild is guided by University of The West Indies, Open Campus, Guild of Students’ Constitution 2012. Elected officers of the Guild of Students represent students on all the main decision making boards and committees of the University including its academic, planning, finance and committees. | |
7.2 | What is the Purpose of the Guild? |
The primary purpose of the Guild of Students is to enhance the student's university experience. Student Leadership serves as the link to the Administration of The UWI and promotes and develops the educational, social, economic and cultural interests of the students. | |
7.3 | How can I become a Member of the Guild? |
All students of The UWI have automatic membership to the Guild of Students. However, to become a student leader, you must be a currently registered student in good academic and financial standing with The UWI. There are several active student associations at the Open Campus Country Sites, called Guild Chapters where students can become active members, to mentor their peers and to serve the community. There is also an ongoing drive for Guild Chapter Development for new interest to ensure that all Open Campus Country Sites have student representation. | |
