The UWI Global Campus, Barbados. Thursday, September 18, 2025—The UWI Global Campus recently concluded its 46th Annual CXC/CSEC Summer School Programme with a Closing and Prize-Giving Ceremony, at the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School Hall. The event was attended by staff members, tutors, students, and their parents/guardians.
This longstanding programme continues to prepare students for success in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC)/CSEC examinations through an extensive and engaging curriculum. It remains closely aligned with The UWI Global Campus’ mission to deliver accessible, high-quality education across the Region.
Under this year’s theme, “Reimagine Learning: Connect, Strengthen, Grow”, the five-week programme welcomed ninety-five (95) students from Barbados’ public and private secondary schools. For the first time, the group included a participant from the Caribbean Online Academy and another from Richard Ishmael Secondary in Guyana, who was visiting the island. Students choose from thirteen (13) subject areas, in addition to workshops and extracurricular activities, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching experience.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Sherwin Rollins, Programme Officer, Global Campus Sites (GCS) Division, Barbados, expressed gratitude to the students, parents, tutors, staff, and volunteers for their contributions to the programme’s success. He deemed this year’s programme as another phenomenal success, noting how beneficial it has been to the students. Students were also encouraged to apply the strategies learned from their tutors in the new school year and to share their knowledge with peers who were unable to attend.
The programme was further strengthened by the support of corporate partners, including Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited, The UWI Cooperative Credit Union, Kooyman Barbados, and Rubis Barbados. These sponsors provided awards for the top student in each CXC/CSEC subject, as well as recognition for the secondary school(s) with the highest participation. Their contribution was lauded as a demonstration of strong commitment to youth development and education.
Leading the way in participation were The St. Michael School, proudly taking the top spot, with Alleyne School following closely behind. Their success serves as a reminder of the bright future ahead as more students embrace the opportunities offered through the programme with the unwavering support of their schools and communities.
