The Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Tuesday, August 25, 2026—The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Roger Nesbeth as Director of Human Resources, effective August 1, 2026.
Dr Nesbeth is an experienced educator and leader with more than 43 years of experience in education and general management, including 32 years dedicated to higher education management and human resource management. Prior to his appointment as Director of Human Resources, Dr Nesbeth served as Acting Director of Human Resources on several occasions since joining the Campus in 2017, most recently from January to February 2025 and from May 2025 to July 2026. He held several positions within The UWI, including roles in the Human Resource Management Division (HRMD), Registry, at The UWI Mona Campus, and the Regional Coordinating Office of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at The UWI Regional Headquarters.
Over the years, Dr Nesbeth has also served as a Research Supervisor in the Doctor of Education (EdD) programme at The UWI Global Campus. He has presented seminars at the local and regional levels and has served as a presenter at conferences locally, regionally and internationally.
Dr Nesbeth holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Higher Education Management and Organisational Change in Higher Education Institutions from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom; a Master of Arts in Heritage Studies from The UWI; a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Jamaican Institute of Management, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in History with Social Science from The UWI. He is also an honours graduate in Teaching from Mico University College, Jamaica.
His research interests include Human Resource Management in Higher Education Institutions, Higher Education Management, Organisational Change in Higher Education Institutions, New Managerialism/Corporate Managerialism, and New Public Management in Higher Education Institutions. Dr. Nesbeth also has a keen interest in local, regional, and global affairs.
In his new role, Dr Nesbeth will provide leadership for the Campus’s human resource management function and support the continued development of its human resources and organisational capacity, in alignment with the strategic objectives of The UWI.
In commenting on and welcoming this new appointment in the Global Campus, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal Dr Francis O. Severin stated, “Dr Nesbeth has over the years provided genuine and authentic support, not only in the human resource sphere, but also in a global sense, as it were. This is because he is genuinely interested in the success of the Campus, in all its functions, and of course, in the University. Dr Nesbeth is one of those colleagues we can truly assign the epithet, ‘a UWI man.’ I have found him to provide solid, robust and well-researched advice and guidance in human resources and other matters. His opinions are respected because he also exercises the optimum level of caution when necessary. I am confident he will continue to serve us outstandingly.”
