Professor Sir Hilary Beckles to discuss How Europe Underdeveloped Africa and the Caribbean at SOAS University of London event.

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. Wednesday, March 9, 2022. — On Friday, March 11, SOAS University of London will feature Professor Sir Hilary Beckles during its Director's Lecture Series.

2022 marks the 50th anniversary of SOAS alumnus Walter Rodney's ground-breaking book, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa. In honour of this anniversary, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, has published his own book, How Britain Underdeveloped the Caribbean.

For the March 11 event, Sir Hilary will join Zeinab Badawi, Award-winning Broadcaster, Journalist and Current President of SOAS University, as well as Professor Adam Habib, Director of SOAS in a lively debate on his book, but also the issue of global reparations.

This free virtual event, The SOAS Director's Lecture Series: How Europe Underdeveloped Africa and the Caribbean - the Reparations Debate, ft. Professor Sir Hilary Beckles is accessible to members of the public. Interested persons may sign up via Eventbrite.
