Statement in response to the article published in Barbados TODAY on Tuesday, December 5, 2023

Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Wednesday, December 6, 2023 — The University of the West Indies Global Campus expresses deep concern about the article which was published on page three of the Barbados TODAY News on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, entitled, “UWI Global Barbados staff criticised for shunning ‘work-to-rule’-protest”.

Among the inaccuracies noted in the article is the statement which indicates that one specific Government was to be blamed for the delay in salary. This statement does not reflect any information coming from the Campus Principal. Despite the outstanding payments by some Governments, we have not at any time publicly divulged the name of any single Government owing contributions. Instead, we have continued to engage them separately in a polite manner.

In this regard, the Principal and Senior Management Team wish to state that at no point was there any information shared on Governments who have unpaid contributions to The UWI.

The Principal and Senior Management Team regret the inconvenience being experienced by our Global Campus team members and continue to work assiduously to find solutions to the financial challenges facing the Campus. Additionally, many of our Global Campus team members from across the region continue to work and serve selflessly throughout this season of difficulty and we salute their efforts.
