Thursday, August 13, 2026—The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Alumni Association (UWIAA) St. Kitts & Nevis Chapter has begun a process of revitalisation, following a Meet & Mingle held in collaboration with The UWI Global Campus, which brought together UWI alumni from across both islands on Friday, July 17, 2026. The event was held under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, GCMG, JP, Governor-General of St. Kitts & Nevis.
In welcoming the alumni, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd reminded attendees that they have benefited from a world-class education provided by The UWI, often with the support of their communities. She encouraged alumni to give back and recommit to the values of the institution. “This is our moment to recommit ourselves to our shared values as Alumni of this prestigious institution by giving a little bit of our time, talent and other resources to the rebuilding of The UWI Alumni Association St. Kitts & Nevis Chapter,” she said.
The Honourable Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis, also encouraged the alumni to support the revitalisation of the Chapter, emphasising the importance of reconnecting with alumni and maintaining consistent communication. He demonstrated his commitment by pledging his support, alongside that of his wife, to the Chapter’s revitalisation efforts.
Mrs. Sandra Griffith-Carrington, Campus Alumni Officer, The UWI Global Campus, welcomed the strong turnout and expressed her enthusiasm about the Chapter’s renewed efforts. She noted that, under the leadership of former Presidents Mr. Craig Tucket and Mrs. Jihan Williams-Knight, the St. Kitts & Nevis Chapter was one of the most vibrant among the 12 chapters under her remit. She noted that she eagerly looked forward to working with the Chapter to restore its vibrancy.
A key outcome of the gathering was the formation of an interim executive committee, comprising nine alumni led by Dr. Nigel Browne, who volunteered to spearhead the revitalisation of the Chapter. The initiative signals a renewed commitment to reconnecting alumni and strengthening their engagement with The University of the West Indies.
The Meet & Mingle provided an opportunity for alumni to reconnect, share experiences and renew their commitment to The UWI. The event also featured a cultural performance by Valon’s International Masquerades, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of St. Kitts & Nevis.
Reacting to this exciting development, Principal of the Global Campus, Dr Francis O. Severin expressed his pleasure, adding that, “It would not be right for there not to be a vibrant alumni chapter in the Federation, one of our most faithful supporters, partners and members of The University of the West Indies family. The Global Campus looks forward with enthusiasm to strengthening even more its already solid relationship with St. Kitts and Nevis and enhancing its presence there.”
All UWI Alumni residing in St. Kitts & Nevis, regardless of which Campus they attended, who were unable to attend the event are encouraged to reach out to The UWI Global Campus, St. Kitts & Nevis or the Office of Alumni Relations (opencampus@alumni.uwi.edu) to connect with the local Chapter.
