The UWI Global Campus (formerly Open Campus) to Celebrate its Class of 2023 in Virtual Graduation Ceremony

Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Tuesday, October 24, 2023 —The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus (formerly Open Campus) will once again celebrate the achievement of its Graduands in a Virtual Ceremony to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 6:00 pm EC via www.uwitv.org, UWItv's channels on Flow EVO and on Facebook live.  As this year’s Ceremony is being held during The UWI Diamond Jubilee milestone themed "UWI at 75. Rooted. Ready. Rising", a short video celebrating the University's work and achievements will be aired at the start of the Ceremony.

This Graduation Ceremony will mark the first under the new UWI Global brand and will see approximately 547 Graduands (112 postgraduates and 435 undergraduates) officially graduating with Doctorates, Master’s, Bachelor’s, and Associate degrees, as well as Certificates and Diplomas in several subject areas. As with past ceremonies, Graduands from across the Caribbean are asked to join in the virtual celebration by creating watch parties with their families and friends to cheer them on as their names are called and their pictures scroll across the screen.

As is customary for these ceremonies, Heads of State and Government; the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor; members of the University’s Executive Management; other highly placed University and government officials; the Campus’ Senior Management Team; as well as family and friends of the Graduands, will tune in to watch as they are acknowledged for their achievements and are awarded their formal academic qualifications.

At this year’s ceremony, the Campus will confer Honorary degrees on two outstanding Caribbean Citizens. Monsignor Hon. Dr Patrick ‘Paba’ Anthony, SLC, from Saint Lucia, will be awarded the Doctor of Letters (DLitt) for his work as a Cultural Icon and Activist, and the Right Honourable Dame Janet Gwennett Bostwick, CB, DBE, from The Bahamas, will be awarded the Doctor of Laws (LLD) for her service to Law and Politics.

The Valedictorian for the Class of 2023 is Ms. Breya John, an Early Childhood Practitioner from the beautiful thirty-two islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who will be graduating with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Education Early Childhood Development and Family Studies programme. She is currently employed by the Ministry of Education of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a Primary School Educator. As is customary, Ms John will deliver the Valedictory Speech on behalf of her fellow graduates from across the Region.

The official Presentation of Graduates Ceremony will close with the new graduates repeating The UWI Alumni Pledge and a musical rendition of the University song, “There is a Light”.
