The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia Site Hosts Grant Proposal Writing Workshop for Public Service Employees

The University of West Indies Global Campus Saint Lucia would like to equip local organizations with the knowledge of proper grant proposal writing which may then lead to more successful grant opportunities. Groups are often restricted in their offerings and services to stakeholders due to limited access to resources, particularly financial resources. As a result, many turn to sourcing grants from various institutions; however, the likelihood of receiving a positive response is highly dependent on the quality of the grant proposal submitted.

Grant resources are limited, therefore, the ability to write a convincing and competitive grant proposal which will encourage a financier to invest their funds is not an easy task. It requires knowledge of how to pull all the information together in a structured manner to show the financier that financing a particular project is the best use of their funds and that these funds will be utilised in a beneficial manner. Consequently, organizations need to ensure that its staff are equipped with the skills and competencies to prepare and assess competitive proposals for funding. This workshop is designed to develop the capacity of staff and clients

The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia first introduced the Grant Proposal Writing workshop to Saint Lucia online in March, 2023. This workshop took place virtually every Wednesday in the month, targeting participants from non-governmental organizations, public and private sectors. While the convenience of hosting virtual workshops is undeniable, the second cohort took place as a five-day in-person workshop for public servants at The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia Site on Monday 18th – Friday 22nd September, 2023, at 9:00am – 3:00 pm.

The Grant Proposal Writing Workshops were facilitated by Mr Ryan Byer, Head - The UWI Global Campus Barbados Site and former Acting Director, The UWI Open Campus. Mr Byer is passionate about this area and believes that this workshop will provide participants with valuable insight into the knowledge, skill sets and attributes that successful grant writers require within the organisation.
