The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla closed out the 2021/2022 academic year on July 26th with the hosting of its annual Certificate/Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony in celebration of the local participants in the Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) programmes, the 2021/2022 Online Honour Roll Students and new Student Guild Executive, was witnessed by a large number of family, friends, students and their colleagues at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium and online. Also in attendance were the Honourable Premier, Dr. Ellis Lorenzo Webster, UWI STAT Ambassadors, Tutors, Education and other representatives.
The programme was chaired by Manager for The UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, who applauded the students and highlighted the role of the Open Campus in meeting the needs of the local communities through the local professional development and online programmes.
Seventy-three (73) certificates were issued to participants who successfully completed Continuing and Professional Education certification in Supervisory Management, Human Resource Management, Counselling, Community Mental Health, Protocol and Diplomacy, Small Business Management, Business Writing and Communication, Project Management and Early Childhood Education Care and Development. In addition, Ms. Tenecia Burrell and Ms. Ericia Carter became the latest students to be awarded the Programme Completion Certificate in Early Childhood Education Care and Development, a programme which consists of four courses and two practicums.
The sixty-one (61) online degree students who were named to The UWI Open Campus Honour Roll for Semesters One and Two 2021/2022 were presented with special recognition Certificates for their outstanding achievements. To achieve Honour Roll status, students had to be registered for at least three courses per semester and earn a minimum GPA of 3.6.
In their responses on behalf of the CPE Students, Ms. Teisharn Harrigan and Ms. Johnessa Harrigan highlighted their positive learning experiences and expressed appreciation to the Tutors and the Staff of The UWI Open Campus Anguilla for their guidance and support.
The Induction of the new Executive Guild of Students was led by former Guild Chair and UWI STAT Ambassador and current President of the UWI Alumni Association – Anguilla Chapter, Ms. Kemoloy Murphy. The new Executive is chaired by Ms. Jahnesha Jones and includes Stephanie Ryan, Marva Smith, Khadijah Muhammad, Raheem Williams, Sari-Lee Benjamin, Sherine Brooks and Tasia James, who will serve for one year. During her remarks, outgoing Chapter Chair, Ms. Melissa Harrigan also congratulated the new Executive and made special presentations to the outgoing Executive.
Musical selections during the Ceremony were by Mrs. Veneshaw Richardson of 12th Avenue and Ms. Jenique Nedd, while Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton, Facilitator for Early Childhood Education, Care & Development, delivered the invocation.
The UWI Open Campus Anguilla congratulates all the Students and expresses its appreciation to this year’s Facilitators, including Mrs. Rosena Brooks, Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton, Ms. Erimel Franklin, Dr. Samuel Daniel, Mrs. Tahirah Banks-Webster, Mrs. Dana Ruan, Ms. Desiree Edwards, Ms. Nolda Thomas and Mr. Troy Barker. Appreciation is also extended to all those who participated in the programme and to the Anguillian community for the continued support.
The UWI Open Campus is now accepting applications for its CPE and Online Degrees programmes for the new academic year.
