UWI Open Campus Anguilla Hosts 75TH Anniversary Thanksgiving Service

The general public is invited to a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the 75th Anniversary of The University of The West Indies (UWI) on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at the Ebenezer Methodist Chapel in the Valley.  A wide cross-section of UWI Alumni residing on Anguilla, including graduates of Mona, St. Augustine, Cave Hill, The Open and Five Islands Campuses, the Challenge Programme, Teacher Training, Nursing and other UWI programmes are expected to be in attendance.  

Officiating at the Service will be a number of UWI Graduates, including Superintendent of the Methodist Church on Anguilla, Reverend Vincia Celestine, Canon Reid Simon of the Anglican Church, who will bring the message, Reverends E. Dunstan Richardson, Lindsay K. Richardson and Candice Niles.  Member of The UWI Open Campus Council, Mr. Stanley Reid and one of the Anguilla Pioneering Graduates, Mrs. Stella Horsford will provide an overview of The UWI in general and The UWI on Anguilla.   The Honourable Premier, Dr. Ellis Lorenzo Webster is also slated to bring greetings on behalf of the Government of Anguilla.  During the service an offering in support of the Julian R. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship at The UWI Open Campus Anguilla will be collected.

Anguilla launched the University’s diamond jubilee year with the observance of UWI Day on Saturday, January 7, 2023.  Events included radio and social media programmes and  a Press Statement from Her Excellency the Governor.  Also on the calendar for the year-long celebrations, is the Alumni Awards 2023, which will be hosted by The UWI Alumni Association Anguilla Chapter in April.

UWI Graduates are being encouraged to continue to show their “Pelican Pride” and share their UWI memories and experiences on social and other media as well as on the Anniversary website, www.uwi.edu/75  throughout the year.
