Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Wednesday, September 28, 2022 —The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus will once again celebrate the achievement of its Graduands in a Virtual Ceremony to be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 4:00 pm EC via UWItv at www.uwitv.org and the Campus’ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/uwiopencampuscaribbean.

This will be the third virtual staging of the Presentation of Graduates by The UWI Open Campus which will see approximately 584 Graduands (105 postgraduates and 479 undergraduates) officially graduating with Doctorates, Master’s, Bachelor’s, and Associate degrees, as well as Certificates and Diplomas in a wide range of subject areas. As in the past two years, Graduands from across the Caribbean will be asked to join in the celebration of the virtual ceremony by creating watch parties with their families and friends to cheer them on as their names are called and their pictures scroll across the screen.

As is customary for these ceremonies, Heads of State and Government, the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, members of the University’s Executive Management, other highly placed University and local government officials, as well as family and friends of the Graduands, will tune in to watch as the Graduands are acknowledged and awarded their formal academic qualifications.

During this year’s ceremony, the Open Campus will confer Honorary degrees on two distinguished Caribbean Citizens - Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, PhD, LLM, International Barrister, Dominica for her work in International Labour and Maritime Law and Sir Hugh Anthony Rawlins, Judge, St. Kitts and Nevis for contributions to Law and the Judiciary.  They will both be conferred the Doctor of Laws (LLD).

The Valedictorian for this year is Mr Yehdui John, a citizen of Dominica, who will be graduating with First Class Honours from the Open Campus’ BSc in Management Studies programme. He currently serves as Senior Sports Development Officer in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Community Development in Dominica. His dedication to community service is evident in his service to sports on the Island of Dominica where he has served as President and Vice President of the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA).   As is customary, Mr John will deliver the Valedictory Speech on behalf of his fellow graduates from across the region.

The official Presentation Ceremony will close with the new graduates repeating the Alumni Pledge and a musical rendition of the University song, “There is a Light”.
