UWI Open Campus WAND Hosting Bliss Forum
The UWI Open Campus, WAND Unit, Bridgetown. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 — The Women and Development Unit (WAND) of The UWI Open Campus in collaboration with Waves of Bliss and Business By Design Consultants will host a public forum entitled “Exploring the Good-Good: Women, Orgasms and the Politics of Pleasure” this Thursday March 28.
Thursday’s session starts at 6:00 pm and will be held at the Moot Theatre on the UWI Cave Hill Campus.
The key note speaker is Ms Katrina Ifill, Sensual Empowerment Leader, Communications Specialist and business owner of Waves of Bliss. Other panelists include Senior Consultant, Mrs Lynn Beckles, and Development Specialist, Ms Danielle Toppin. Ms Taitu Heron, Development Specialist and Head of WAND will moderate the evening’s proceedings.
“We will be talking about sex and sensuality and will address the taboos in certain spaces in the Caribbean and the wider world,” explained Ms Heron. “We will discuss women's sexual desires, the challenges faced to express them and the the mysteries around orgasms.”
Ms Heron also states that talking about sex and sensuality is often shrouded in taboo, mystery and discomfort, and that there are socio-cultural barriers surrounding women’s sexual desires and sensual expression.
Among the questions that the session will address are, why is talk about sex and sensuality taboo? How does women’s expression of sexual desire or lack thereof, impede or enhance relationships with spouses or partners? What can you do to help yourself and/or the relationships that you are in?
