UWI Student Games 2026

About the Games (extract from the UWI student games 2026 proposal)

The University of the West Indies Intercampus Games known as The UWI Games – has been a successfully held biennial friendly competition within the University family. It stands on a legacy which started in the 1960s where games rotated annually among the 3 main campuses (Cave Hill – Barbados, St. Augustine – Trinidad and Mona – Jamaica). Throughout this period the Guild of Students, formerly known as the Guild of Undergraduates, was solely responsible for the running and management of the event.

The hosting of the 2021 edition of The UWI Games by the St. Augustine campus was disrupted by Covid-19 pandemic, but now the resumption of the Games would take place here after a 6-year hiatus. The St. Augustine Academy of Sport will lay the foundation to providing the avenues for socialization, cultural education and integration among the campuses. As the students showcase their skills and vie for the title of champions of their respective sport and possibly the overall UWI Games, they will again have the opportunity to form new life-long friendships as they indulge in the food, music, and heritage of the hosting country and work together to effect some positive change in a surrounding community.

The UWI Global Campus was first represented at the Games in 2015 in St. Augustine.  Since then, the campus has participated in 3 editions of the Games, with 2026 being the 4th time the Campus will be participating at the Games. Unlike the landed campuses, the UWI Student Games presents unique challenges to this Campus, owing to both our nature and complexity.  We do not have the facilities of our sister Campuses, neither do we have the luxury of year-round team training in the various disciplines of our interest. As such we rely on our registered athletes, to facilitate representation and participation at the said games.

As it pertains to participation at the Games, to be eligible, students must be registered students of the Campus.

This edition of the UWI student Games will be held at the UWI St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago. The Games are scheduled to be hosted from May 21st to May 30th 2026.
