Certificate in Criminology (Part Time)

Introduction

This programme is designed to provide participants with a knowledge and understanding of Criminology in its various aspects.  It will examine some of the basic problems in the study of Crime, the Administration of Criminal Justice and the Treatment of Offenders.

This programme carries normal matriculation status to UWI Degree programmes.

 

Who is this programme for?

This programme is open to anyone with an interest in Criminology; Legislators, Police officers Security Officers, Prison Officers, Welfare Officers, Forensic Scientists, Social Workers, Sociologists and Court Personnel.

This programme is recognized by the Police Service Commission for possible promotion of Police Officers.

 

Programme Structure

Classes are held twice/trice weekly, Monday-Friday 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Each subject demands seventy-five (75) contact hours or 225 hours per year i.e. 450 contact hours over the two years.

 

When will the programme start?

This programme starts in September and normally runs for Two (2) years.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have five (5) '0' Levels (or equivalent), including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects, or mature students who do not strictly meet the academic requirements but have at least three (3) years experience in his/her field of employment.
