Certificate in Physical Education

Introduction

This programme is mounted with the aim of filling a gap that exists in our educational system – the lack of formal training in Physical Education.

The programme is intended to provide participants with:

  1. An understanding of the mechanisms involved in the scientific bases of the techniques, methods and practical application of Physical Education and Sport.
  2. An awareness of the impact of changing concepts and recent innovations with regard to contemporary Physical Education and Sports
  3. A body of knowledge designed to increase the number of personnel necessary to plan, implement and evaluate quality Physical Education and Sports programmes in the country.

This Programme carries normal matriculation status to UWI Degree programmes.

 

Who is this programme for?

The programme of study offers both the theoretical and practical components of Physical Education and should prove useful to:

  • Physical education teachers in the primary and secondary schools
  • Teachers who did the physical education option in their training programme and
  • Those persons who have an interest in Physical Education

 

Programme Structure

Classes are held twice/trice weekly, Monday-Friday 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

 

When will the programme start?

This programme starts in August and normally runs for Two (2) years.

 

Entry Requirements

Participants should have a Teacher’s Diploma OR at least five (5) ‘O’ Levels or equivalent including English language, Mathematics, Biology and two (2) other relevant subjects.
