The Teaching of Life Skills With Literacy

The development and implementation of a Teaching of Life Skills with Literacy Training programme has increasing significance for Trinidad and Tobago; a society which is on the threshold of social and economic transformation and committed to improving the quality of life of its people. Life Skills training creates an opportunity for the inculcation of fundamental life skills for operating successfully in the world of work, as well as fulfilling the demands of a changing society and is therefore vital to achieving the goals of Vision 2020. This programme is GATE approved.

 

Who Is This Programme For?

 

This programme is mounted for persons who wish to gain life-enhancing skills, such as interacting appropriately with peers and supervisors, dealing with conflict, responding to demands in a timely fashion, performing duties effectively, reading and understanding written instructions, and handling funds related to work or personal finances are all valuable to the livelihood of all citizens. In addition, the exposure to inter and intra-level relationship courses, together with communication and conflict management courses are critical for changing the mind-set of young people in terms of how they view the workplace and their ability to deal with some of its challenges.


 

Programme Structure

 

Classes are held three times weekly, Monday-Friday 5:30pm to 8:30pm, Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Each subject demands 45 contact hours, or 450 contact hours over the three semesters.

 

When Will The Programme Start?

 

This programme starts in August and normally runs for Three (3) Semesters.

 

Entry Requirements

 

Applicants should have Five (5) CSEC/'O' Levels (or equivalent), including English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects.  Applications may be considered from mature persons who do not strictly meet the academic requirements but have five (5) years or more experience in the field.
