The Global Campus Bahamas

Founded in 1947, The University of The West Indies (UWI) is the region's flagship institution of higher learning. The university comprises five campuses, namely, Cave Hill Barbados, Mona Jamaica, St Augustine Trinidad, Global Campus, and Five Islands Antigua and Barbuda.

The Bahamas became an affiliate with UWI in January 1964. To better serve non-campus territories, the formation Open Campus was approved in 2007. The approval resulted in the opening of the Open Campus Bahamas Site in Nassau, The Bahamas.

The purpose of UWI is to open doors to life-changing learning throughout the Caribbean region. The vision is to be an excellent global university rooted in the Caribbean. The mission of UWI is to advance learning, create knowledge, and foster innovation for the positive transformation of the Caribbean and the wider world. UWI, through Global Campus, aggressively serves the region's people by offering higher, distance, and continuing educational programmes, research and innovation, and outreach programmes from all of its locations across the Caribbean region.

Global Campus Bahamas is one of 17 non-campus sites that administer multimode teaching and learning services virtually and on-site. The introduction of Global Campus Bahamas has helped realize access to Continuing and Professional Education, and postgraduate programmes are not readily available otherwise. The local site is responsible for all activities of the Global Campus in The Bahamas, including public service, outreach activities, research, and Continuing Education Programmes.

Students' local registry for 2018/2019 reveals 330 students enrolled in various Global Campus programmes; however, UWI Global Campus Bahamas boasts many graduates of the online degree programmes and hundreds more from its Continuing and Professional Education certificate and certification programmes.

Global Campus Bahamas seeks to remain relevant in times of massive change. The campus is committed to continued provision and exploration of customized training, innovative educational programmes, targeted services, and outreach initiatives to help prepare and strengthen the Bahamian communities across the archipelago to embrace personal and professional growth and development opportunities.
