An academic scholarship that students can apply for once accepted to the UWI, Global Campus, Belize to pursue a senate approved degreed programme.  Students once enrolled can apply yearly.

UWI Open Scholarship

The UWI Open Scholarship is a program designed by The University of the West Indies to attract and reward outstanding students from high schools, community colleges and state colleges in the region, as well as first-year students at UWI. The scholarships can be used for studies at any of the university's four campuses.

To be eligible for The UWI Open Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • First-time applicant: You should be applying for an undergraduate degree at any UWI campus for the first time and should not already hold an undergraduate degree.
  • Academic qualifications: You should have achieved at least 8 subjects at the Caribbean Examinations Council (CSEC) level, including Mathematics and English A, with Grades 1 or 2. Alternatively, you can have at least 6 Units of CAPE, including Communication Studies and Caribbean Studies. Equivalent qualifications from GCE O/A Levels with grades 1 or 2 are also acceptable.
  • Associate degree: If you have completed an associate degree from a community or state college, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.6 and have applied or are in the process of applying to The UWI.
  • First-year university students: If you have completed the first year of a UWI undergraduate degree, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6.
  • Citizenship: You need to be a citizen of one of The UWI’s contributing countries, and you will need to provide proof of citizenship.

The Sir Arthur Lewis Awards for Indigenous People of the OECS and Belize

Note: This scholarship does not cover students who have been accepted to the faculty of Law or Medicine. 

To be considered applicants must obtain a letter of support from the National Garifuna Council, Maya Leaders of Southern Belize or the Northern Maya Association of Belize with an affixed stamp.  If you qualify please reach out to:

OAS - UWI scholarships

The General Secretary/OAS will provide a one-time tuition allowance of USD $3,500 for Scholarship recipients at the Global Campus pursuing the Certificate programme or the Bachelor of Education programme in Early Childhood Development and Family Studies, for which recipients must be in the 1st (first) year of study.

Students who have been accepted to any The UWI campuses can apply to the ministry for financial  assistance.

Documents needed for those accepted to the Global Campus are:
•    Letter of acceptance
•    Full cost of program (obtained from belize@open.uwi.edu)
