EDCU8400

This course will present students with an overview of current practices and principles of assessment. The characteristics and uses of both formative and summative assessment instruments and procedures will be studied with emphasis on formative assessment and effective standards-based instruction. This course builds assessment competency by analysing recent trends in assessment for evaluating and documenting student performance and progress toward desired outcomes. Students examine the use of rubrics in assessment , and evaluate different models, such as Bloom’s taxonomy and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, in creating rubrics associated with competency-based assessment. Learners will investigate valid grading procedures and discuss ethical issues linked to assessment methods and uses of assessment information.

EDEA3301

This course seeks to have students develop competency in applying the methodologies, techniques, and tools of systems analysis and design in (i) the development of information systems and (ii) the development of solutions to managerial problems.

EDEL 8000

This course is designed to help participants understand the various issues of diversity which educators and educational leaders have to effectively deal with to produce successful schools. They will analyze various issues related to diversity in the Caribbean and wider school context. In addition, participants will examine their own values and behaviours as well as the policies and practices of schools as it relates to diversity. The course is designed to help participants develop cultural competence and proficiency as educational leaders as they seek to respond to the issues of diversity in the school context.

EDEL 8001

This course is designed to help participants develop the competencies to facilitate the integration of technology into management practices and into the curriculum to improve student learning. Some aspects of technology to be addressed include e-learning, tools for instructional management and assessment, and communication technology.

EDEL 8002

Upon completing the course, participants will have acquired 21st century competencies in information literacy and communication technology. In this course, participants are introduced to the opportunities which information literacy and technology have to offer. They will also be helped to decide which features of information literacy and technology are best suited to their individual and professional needs. The course is also designed to help participants become fluent and at ease with sourcing and using information.

EDEL 8003

This course is designed to facilitate participants’ understanding of the various organizational systems, culture and structures that operate within Caribbean schools. The administrative processes, programs and services to be undertaken by educational administrators in such educational organizations will be explored.

EDEL 8004

The course is designed to help participants understand what it is involved in leadership and management in an institution. More specifically, participants will learn how to lead and manage change processes in educational organizations.

EDEL 8005

This course examines the connection between ethics, law and school leadership. It helps participants to critically examine the rights and responsibilities of educational leaders based on legal principles and ethical codes which obtain in Caribbean school contexts.
