The course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and enhance human capital in schools. The human resource functions such as planning, recruitment, induction, placement, development, and compensation will be explored within the context of the Caribbean school context.
The course is centred on discussion of current and pertinent educational issues and concerns that educational leaders are required to deal with in their respective contexts. Through the discourse participants will be presented with approaches to addressing the related concerns.
The course is designed to equip participants with knowledge and skills in planning for and evaluating programmes and policies in education. Topics to be covered include approaches to programme and policy evaluation, standards for programme evaluation, planning evaluations, and communicating and utilizing findings from evaluations.
The Comprehensive Examination (CE) in the EdD in Educational Leadership is an assessment of your proficiency in analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, and applying the theoretical and practical knowledge (acquired during your graduate programme) to real-world problems in education. This examination will also assess your ability to explore educational problems through research.
The course is designed to give participants practical insight in academic administration in higher education. Topics to be covered include principles of academic leadership, understanding academic organizations, governance models and strategic planning in higher education, operating structures in higher education, decision making and academic leadership, legal issues and crisis management, and external influences and the role of supporting organizations.
The course covers education budgets and what is involved in financial management in higher education. Financial issues which affect financing and budgeting in higher education institutions will also be explored.
In this course, participants will be exposed to specific social, economic, political, legal and cultural factors which impact on higher education. Regional and global issues will also be considered. Participants will be engaged in discussion of current trends and issues in the respective areas and the associated opportunities or challenges presented by the issues.
The course is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of teaching and learning. In the course, information is provided about assessment, motivation, active learning teaching/learning strategies, and principles and theories of learning in higher education.
