The course is designed to enhance students’ knowledge of educational research methods via critical exploration of philosophies, research language, designs, ethics and politics. It facilitates the actual use of educational research methods to provide students with an opportunity to link the theories, philosophies, concepts and designs with their profession. Topics include; the educational research framework, ethics, data collection, data analysis and current developments in educational research.
This course prepares doctoral students to critically examine contemporary issues in online and distance education, current research, and emerging trends in technology-enabled education. It involves the investigation of historical use of technology in education, the impact of emerging technologies on teaching and learning, and strategies for making informed decisions concerning the use of technology in the curriculum. Topics such as instructional systems design, application of teaching and learning theories in technology-enabled environments, emerging technologies, equity and access, and mobile learning are explored and evaluated for consideration as research project topics.
The primary deliverable of this course is the identification of the proposed research topic, potential research questions to be explored, and a preliminary literature review with annotated bibliography
The course is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge of teaching and learning. In the course, information is provided about assessment, motivation, active learning teaching/learning strategies, and principles and theories of learning in the general education context.
The course covers processes and systems of accountability in general education. Attention will be paid to understanding how processes and systems operate in the Caribbean context.
The course is designed to give participants general information about education budgets and what is involved in financial management in general education contexts. Financial issues which affect financing and budgeting in schools will also be explored.
In this course participants will be exposed to specific social, economic, political, legal, and cultural factors which impact on schooling. Regional and global issues will also be considered. Participants will be engaged in discussion of current trends and issues in the respective areas and the associated opportunities or challenges presented by the issues.
This course is designed to help participants:
- Develop a frame of reference for pursuing courses in the management of learning in difficulty, particularly within the Caribbean context.
- Examine critically definitional issues regarding the learner in difficulty.
- Focus on factors that may contribute to learning difficulties for learners in the regular classrooms, particularly those without overt exceptionalities.
- Examine the needs of the learner in difficulty with reference to the factors enumerated.
