Introduction
This Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) Certificate in ICT Law, is a 120 contact hour programme geared towards equipping individuals with the foundation knowledge, skills and competencies in the interdisciplinary specialized area of Information and Communication Technology Law (ICT Law). The programme seeks to provide participants with an understanding of the fundamentals within the topic areas of information, communication, technology and the relationship with law.
Who is this programme for?
The programme is particularly well-suited for Attorneys-at-Law and Paralegals who wish to obtain knowledge within the specialized area of ICT Law. Practitioners and professionals with an educational background in law and/or Information technology who are seeking to understand how ICT affects law and how law affects the use of ICT, will also find this programme appropriate.
Programme Structure
The programme consists of four courses. These may be taken together for the completion of the Certificate or participants may be allowed to complete any course for the award of the Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Entry Requirements
Applicants to the programme should possess a first degree but are not required to have a legal or IT-related background. Alternately, persons who are in pursuit of the above mentioned qualification are also invited to apply. Assessment Structure
A model of continuous in-course assessment will be applied to all courses within this programme. Students will be assessed at different intervals over the duration of each course which may include written examinations. Assignments may also include but are not limited to: case-based activities, practical assignments, presentations and other projects.
Course of Study
This course introduces participants to the legal and ethical issues confronting professionals within the information and communication technology sector. Emphasis will be placed on the four major categories of ethical issues that may arise within the information society namely, privacy, accuracy, property and accessibility.
Navigating the Internet for some may be as simple as "point and click", but it is important to understand the dynamics of the cyber world and the responsibilities and ramifications related to having an online presence. The course’s major emphasis is on Internet usage and electronic commerce. The types and extent of current cybercrimes will also be reviewed.
This course focuses on developing an understanding of the basic rules and principles ownership of digital products. It will review intellectual property rights, particularly as they apply to information and communication technologies (ICT) and the legal framework in place to protect these rights.
Information and Communication Technology Law encompasses almost all branches of law related to ICT. This introductory course will focus on ICT and the related laws and regulations. There will be an emphasis on providing a general understanding of the legal concepts and regulations applicable to ICT.
