Course Description
This is an introductory course designed to develop an understanding of the core concepts in economics and the relationship between micro and macro economic issues and the performance of financial markets. Learners will be exposed to main theories and concepts in microeconomics that provide critical insight into how economies function. Macroeconomic concepts and theories that will be introduced include inflation, unemployment, recession, and competitiveness, which affect the performance of the national economy. The concepts and theories introduced will provide the foundation to assist with critical understanding of the structure of financial markets, interest rates, portfolio selection and corporate finance. It is designed to introduce learners to the theoretical and practical components of the content, methods and techniques of economic analysis in the context of the financial features of regional economies.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to: Knowledge
1. Identify, using different approaches, the main micro and macro economic issues
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the link between micro and macro economic issues and the financial sector
3. Identify the main theories in the micro and macro economies
4. Identify the main theories in finance
5. Critically analyze how economies function in the context of financial features
6. Describe various special features of financial economics in contemporary markets
7. Describe the capital asset pricing model (CAPM)
